And the Winner is...

So I received an article today about who’s the biggest meat-eating dino. Basically it said that a report last month now officially recognizes that the Spinosaurus is the new reigning king of carnivorous dinosaurs known to science, bigger than the T. Rex and Giganotosaurus (I’m sure he was made fun of as a young lizard). They had actually discovered fossils of the big guy way back in 1915 in Germany, but were destroyed in 1944 during WWII bombing. The article also said that even though Spiny was the baddest meat-eater around, it wasn’t even close to being the largest dino on the block. That heavy weight belt goes to the Argentinasaurus (probably discovered in Africa or eastern Russia, that’s my guess). It was a herbivore, clocking in at whooping 120 feet in length and weighing 100 tons—the equivalent length of 7 and a half Honda Accords and the weight of 64 Accords (and I’m talkin’ sedans, not coupes). Two things stick out to me…

The Circus is in Town

Have you ever had a dream where you knew the location—your home, school, town, or whatever, but everything was distorted? Things just didn’t feel completely right: the people were foreign, the events felt out of place. It all seemed to play out fine in your subconscious, but when you awoke, you knew the bizarre juxtapositions of Spanish quaking ducks and your motorcycle riding grandma just couldn’t occur in reality. Though, it would be cool if it did indeed happen. Such was my experience with Monkeygrinder—a bizarre trip to the circus.

South for the winter

Being from California, I’ve been spoiled most of my life living in a state with almost perfect weather—not too hot or cold, not to dry or wet—practically year round. Now I realize there are parts of California that get pretty hot during the summer, heck Death Valley is one of the largest parks in the US. And there are other parts that can be down right frigid, you know who you are…Truckee. But I’m specifically referring to the Bay Area, and even more specific to Palo Alto, where you can find the Stanford Cardinals, birthplace of HP, and home to Steve Jobs and Steve Young, not to mention Rick’s Rather Rich Ice Cream.

Signs of the times

Throughout my travels I've come across a variety of interesting or one-of-a-kind signs, labels, or other type markings. I'm sure to those who see them all the time, they will seem like ordinary run-of-the-mill house cats. But for myself, discovering them for the first time is like coming upon some exotic creature, such as a sheep or cow, whose full glory I cannot yet comprehend nor wish to enrage its lust for man-flesh. Its eyes piercing my very being like molten lava pouring through...wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, signs. Juxtaposition, setting, and a skewed view of life help enhance the image and hopefully the humor. The images have not been altered, but have been formatted to fit your screen and for duration. Oh, and go ahead and make your own caption.
